tour: Wilton's Music Hall

Wilton's Music Hall in Shadwell is the world's oldest grand music hall. They run weekly history tours into the auditorium and back rooms which offer a unique chance to nose around the building when it is not being used and to find out more about London's music halls, in particular how Wilton's started and how it has managed to survive two world wars, redevelopment and dereliction.

afternoon tea: Cannizaro House

Post-Mother's Day afternoon tea at Cannizaro House on Wimbledon Common with Stacey and the ma. It was by chance we found it. A general feeling of laziness and weekend tube related dread inspired us to look a little closer to home for tea. Cannizaro House was brilliant; the Orangerie is bright and cosy, the staff were welcoming and attentive without being invasive and there was a seemingly never ending supply of sandwich and cake top-ups. The green macaroons gave us all green tongues.

been playing: Taxidermy Late at the Horniman Museum

 photo Untitled-1.gif

Last week we went along to the Horniman's Taxidermy late where they has short films in the greenhouse, exhibition talks, a fantastic taxidermy photobooth and live demonstrations .  I finally got to see the walrus standing proudly on his new iceberg and spent most of the evening with a Mojito in one hand and stuffed animal in the other.

been to: afternoon tea at W Hotel

Yesterday Stacey and I dipped into the W Hotel in Leicester Square for afternoon tea.  W Hotel has been on our 'to-do' list for an age so it was great to finally go.  The cakes arrived on a gold disk cake stand and each one was seriously delicious, my favourite was the blueberry Battenberg which I'll be trying to replicate at home sometime soon.

birthday surprise

It was my birthday a few weeks back and my brilliant friends surprised me in the middle of a bar with this delicious Ryan Gosling cake.  It didn't take long to devour that face.
